Masondo also stated that the police have no record of any suicide and that the investigation into the case of child abuse and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm is ongoing.
The child has reportedly been removed from the mother’s custody and placed with the provincial department of social development.
The mother appeared in court and was released, but the South African Police Service was instructed to collect both parents’ cellphones for further investigation. False rumors of the woman’s death began circulating on social media platforms.
